Piergiorgio Balocchi

Born in Siena in 1954, he is Professor Emeritus of the Chair of Sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Carrara and a Member of the Academy of the Arts of Drawing (Accademia delle Arti del Disegno) in Florence.

His exhibition career began in 1975 when he was invited to the 10th Rome Quadrennial "La Nuova Generazione". Since then, he has taken part in major exhibitions both in Italy and abroad. In 1981, he held his first solo exhibition at the Toninelli Gallery in Piazza di Spagna, Rome, introduced by Enzo Carli. The renowned art historian supported his work from the very beginning, overseeing every aspect of his career; Balocchi’s sculpture matured under Carli's guidance and remained deeply influenced by him until the Master's passing.

During these years, he also formed a close friendship with Mariano Apa, who invited him to the Venice Biennale in 1984 and subsequently to the Rome Quadrennial in 1986. In the 1980s, he exhibited with the Toninelli Gallery (Rome) at the FIAC in Paris, and with the Gentili and Guastalla galleries at Expò Arte Bari and Arte Fiera in Bologna.

He regularly exhibits in national and international exhibitions, participates in numerous sculpture symposia, and creates monumental works for both public and private commissions.
