SANTA CATERINA:
resistant souls
Inaugurated on July 29, this exhibition symbolically represents an opening toward the future for Santa Caterina sullo Ionio and for those who courageously decided to continue living in its historic center. The narrative recounts the fire of July 29, 1983, through images that restore the former magnificence of a palace consumed by flames.
However, the fire that devastated the historic center did not destroy the spirit of its inhabitants. The "resistance" photographs seek out the locals in their most intimate places, where they have kept memories and traditions alive to avoid abandoning that labyrinth of narrow streets and alleys.
Today, within those walls spared by the fire, children's laughter echoes through the streets once more, alongside the smiles of new residents: a sign of rebirth that transforms memory into a new sense of belonging.
